O Filme Intermezzo: Uma História de Amor ( Original: Intermezzo: A Love Story) conta a História do violonista Holger Brandt (Leslie Howard) que volta para casa depois de uma turnê mundial. Ele e sua esposa, Margit (Edna Best), estão com o casamento desgastado. Enquanto isso Ann-Marie (Ann E. Todd), a filha do casal, está tendo aulas de piano com a jovem Anita Hoffman (Ingrid Bergman). Até que, ao vê-la tocar no aniversário de sua filha, Holger se impressiona com tamanho talento e encanto de Anita e isso desperta nele alguns sentimentos e desejos.
