In an attempt to increase his area of influence, the ambitious Cesare Borgia employs soldier Andrea Orsini as an itinerant ambassador in the kingdoms he wants to dominate.
Andrea arrives in a mountainous state, ruled by Count Marco Antonio Verano. There, he discovers that there are more noble ways to live his life and turns against Cesare.
